House prices are on the rise all across the country, therefore it is no surprise that the cost of properties in both Greater Manchester and London are becoming all the more unaffordable.

Whilst the average house price in Greater Manchester is £229,873, according to the latest data from Rightmove, house hunters in London can expect to pay a lot more for their homes, with an average house price of £877,915 in the capital.

As well as the cost of cheap houses going up, those looking to buy a million-pound home are now likely to get much less bang for their buck. Here we take a look at the £1,000,000 homes that are currently up for sale in both Greater Manchester and London, to see what this amount can buy you in the north compared to the south.

A million pounds could also buy you a this unique five-bedroom house in Stockport. Set on a large corner plot in a idyllic cul-de-sac, the home boasts state of the art technology and ultra modern décor throughout.

A contemporary, detached family home is on the market for £1million in Bowdon, which is Greater Manchester's most expensive area to live.

The home also has a lawn area, driveway and garage to the front and a beautiful spacious garden to the rear.

This three-bedroom house is on the market for £1 million in Hackney. The tradional-style terraced home is made up on a through-lounge, dining room, kitchen, utility room, downstairs shower room, three double bedrooms and family bathroom.

The property also benefits from a loft room and small courtyard area to the rear. Estate agents describe it as "an ideal family home".

Up for sale in Wimbledon is this semi-detached home, which doesn't quite look like it should be worth a million pounds. Described as being within good access to Wimbledon Tennis, the house has a kitchen, dining room, two open-plan studio areas, a study, four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
